This is a catch phrase from a movie I just watched called Nicholas Nickelby. It made me think that in terms of my career in technology, I have done just that. I have worked with many people in my career. We've gained a respect for each other's abilities and friendship has grown from it. The internet has helped me to keep many of those friendships going. I can count among my friends some of the more influential captains of technology.

If I were ever to write a book about thriving in this industry, I would try to capture this thought as part of a formula for the culture you must cultivate when setting on your journey. Though I have had modest success, I have still to make that breakthrough that pushes me high enough in technology circles to the point that people actually listen to what I have to say about the subject.

I work each day as I try to document/blog my progress through the contents of this site and my foray into open source. I can only prepare for opportunity and hope to find it is true that "chance favors the prepared mind" -Louis Pasteur.
